Maryland Public Television ("MPT" or "the company") will conduct the contest substantially as described in these rules, and by participating, each participant agrees as follows:

1. Description of Contest/Participation.
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. MPT WORDGIRL and PBS Kids Go! viewers are asked to tell us what their favorite word is and why. Email your favorite word and a brief explanation totaling 50 words or less to MPT at wordgirl@mpt.org or send by postal mail to MPT c/o WORDGIRL-PBS Kids Go! Giveaway. Entries must include name, age, email-address and postal mail address for prize delivery. Winners will be randomly selected from all entries. MPT is not responsible for lost, damaged, or incomplete entries. All entries become the property of MPT and will not be returned. All entries must be received by Friday May 23, 2008.

A. Dates of Contest: May 5, 2008 – May 23, 2008. Winners will be notified on or about Wednesday, May 28, 2008. Maryland Public Television has the right to end the giveaway at any time without notice.

2. Prize.
Five winners will be chosen to each receive a WORDGIRL-PBS Kids Go! prize pack which includes various PBS Kids Go! programs promotional items including but not limited to water bottle, stickers, t-shirt, game, dictionary, and pencil.

3. Eligibility and Limitations.
The giveaway is open to anyone 12 years of age or younger. Limit one winner per immediate family. Full or part-time employees (including consultants) of Maryland Public Television and their immediate family are not eligible to participate in any contests. The term "immediate family" includes spouses, siblings, parents, children, grandparents, and grandchildren, whether as "in-laws," or by current or past marriage(s), remarriage(s), adoption, co-habitation or other family extension, and any other persons residing at the same household whether or not related. In order to participate in this contest, contestants agree that we may use their name, likeness and city and state of residence on-air and in any station promotional material without prior approval or compensation of any kind.

4. Delivery Disclaimer.
Participants are restricted to the use of mail and online submission. Only these formats will be accepted. The Company disclaims all liability for the inability of a participant to complete or continue an email message due to equipment malfunction, busy lines, inadvertent disconnections, traffic congestion on internet lines, power outages and acts beyond the Company's control, or otherwise.

5. Publicity.
By participating, all participants and winner(s) grant the Company exclusive permission to use their names, characters, photographs, voices, and likenesses in connection with promotion of this and other contests and waive any claims to royalty, right, or remuneration for such use in any media, worldwide, in perpetuity.

6. Release.
By participating, each participant and winner waives any and all claims of liability against the Company, its employees, its sponsors and agents, for any personal injury or loss which may occur from the conduct of, or participation in, the contest, or from the use or misuse of any prize.

7. Decisions.
The Company reserves the right to disqualify any participant or winner and may refuse to award any prize to a person who is ineligible or has violated any rule, gained unfair advantage in participating in the contest, or obtained winner status using fraudulent means. Further, the Company will resolve any disputes, conflicting claims or ambiguities concerning the rules and the Company's decisions concerning such disputes shall be final. All decisions will be made by the Company and are final. The Company may waive any of these rules in its sole discretion. All participants are bound by these rules. Decisions of the judges are final and binding with respect to all contest related matters.

8. Miscellaneous.
Each winner may be required to submit proof of eligibility and identity and sign the Company's release form to claim the prize. No purchase necessary to participate or win. Void where prohibited. Odds of winning depend upon the number of participants. The Company may substitute a prize of equivalent value, amend the rules or discontinue the contest at any time as announced on the station. The Company disclaims any responsibility to notify participants of any aspect related to the conduct of this contest. Written copies of these rules are available during normal business hours at the business offices of the station and by mail upon written request with a stamped, self-addressed return envelope. All entries become the property of the Company and will not be returned. All federal, state and local regulations apply.
