How do I contact MPT's Motor Donor program?

Our office is located at the headquarters of Maryland Public Television in Owings Mills. Call us toll free at 888-777-9633 or at 410-581-4075. Our e-mail is modo@mpt.org.

What type of vehicle can I donate?

We accept most vehicles including cars, boats, motorcycles and RVs. We'll also consider other types of vehicles such as pop-up campers, trailers and golf carts. Some restrictions may apply on older vehicles.

Is my vehicle eligible for this donation program?

We accept most vehicles however, we may not accept some older vehicles or very high mileage vehicles whose value would not offset the cost of towing. You must have a clear title to the vehicle, that is, it must be unencumbered by a lien.

When will my vehicle be picked up?

You car will be picked up by a professionally licensed, bonded, and insured towing company within 3 to 5 days after we receive your title.

How should I prepare my vehicle?

  • You should remove your license plates from the vehicle and return them to the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, if required.

  • Please remove all personal possessions from your car.

  • We do not need the registration or insurance certificate.

  • All four tires must be inflated.

  • The vehicle should be intact with no major parts missing.

  • The vehicle must be in a location that is accessible to a tow truck.

In what geographic areas do you pick up donated vehicles?

We will generally pick up vehicles that are located in our broadcast coverage area. This includes all of Maryland, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Southern Pennsylvania and Northern Virginia. Whether we pick up your car from one of these areas depends on whether the value of the car will offset the towing costs. Give us a call or e-mail us if interested.

What happens to my vehicle after I donate it?

Maryland Public Television does not sell your vehicle directly. Each vehicle is evaluated and sent to a vehicle auction, specialty wholesaler or retailer, recycler or otherwise sold. Money collected from the sale of your vehicle goes to the MPT Foundation, Inc., whose principle function is to support the fundraising efforts of Maryland Public Television.

What do I do with my title?

We ask that you sign the title over to the MPT Foundation, Inc..
We will provide you with a self addressed envelope so that you can send us your title. If you prefer and need a quicker turnaround time, you may send your titles to:

Attn: MPT's Motor Donor Program

MPT Foundation, Inc.

11767 Owings Mills Blvd.

Owings Mills, MD 21117-1499

What if I don't have a title?

You will need to request a duplicate title from the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. You may visit their Web site at www.marylandmva.com to order a duplicate title online, or to download the (VR018) Application for a Duplicate Title. There is a $20.00 fee. A Duplicate Title can also be obtained immediately with I.D. at any full service MVA Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30, or by mailing the application with the required fee to: Motor Vehicle Administration, Duplicate Title Room 206, 6601 Ritchie Hwy. N.E., Glen Burnie, MD 21062 (410)-768-7186. It generally takes 2-3 weeks to receive the title when ordering online or by mail.

What if I would like to donate a boat or other watercraft?

We do accept boat donations and donations of other types of watercraft and vessels. There are many different types of boats, so if you have any questions, just give us a call or use e-mail and we will let you know if we are interested.

We require that boats have a trailer so that we can tow them safely and efficiently. Boats under 3,000 pounds do not need titles, but a bill of sale or other paperwork proving ownership is helpful. Trailers require proof or ownership that can be either the registration, a title, or a bill of sale.

What type of receipt do I receive from Maryland Public Television?

We generally send two receipt letters. The first letter is an acknowledgement letter that you should receive within a week after the donation of your vehicle.
You will receive a second letter that serves as your tax receipt approximately 10 days after we receive your title. If you have any questions call us toll free at 888-777-9633.

I've donated my car to support MPT recently and requested a membership to MPT. When and what will I receive for the membership?

You will receive 12 issues of our monthly MPT Members' Guide. The donation process sometimes takes several weeks to complete, but you will receive a full year subscription.
