MPT Presents Foster Care Stories: A Place to Be

Owings Mills, MD - Join Maryland Public Television (MPT) on November 24 at 8pm for a special encore presentation of this revealing documentary that chronicles the lives and struggles of foster children in the state of Maryland.

Directed, produced and photographed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Bill Whiteford, the documentary takes a close look at the realities facing many of Maryland's foster children as they strive for a sense of belonging under the care of their foster and adoptive parents.

During the broadcast, live interviews with representatives of local organizations present information on how to make a difference in the life of a foster child through mentoring and volunteering.

Currently Maryland has 8,730 children in care, many in their preteen and teen years. Parental support and adult guidance is crucial during this pivotal, transitional time in a child's life. Organizations such as Maryland Court Appointed Special Advocates Association (CASA), the Foster Youth Resource Center, Adoptions Together, Maryland's Department of Human Resources and local social services agencies offer many volunteer and mentoring opportunities for members of the community across the state.

Maryland Public Television's ongoing collaborations around foster care have earned MPT an Emmy nomination last year for the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Community Service Award. The documentary and taped interviews air as part of MPT's National Family Week observance, November 22-28, which features programs highlighting Maryland families and children. Foster Care Stories: A Place to Be is underwritten, in part, by The Annie E. Casey Foundation.

Also airs November 25 at 12:01am and 3am on MPT and, on MPT2, November 25 at 8pm.
