   Last of the Summer Wine

Ripe for mischief, Britain's oldest (if not wisest) adolescents have been delighting television audiences around the world since 1973, making this the longest-running sitcom in the world. Each new series soars high in the ratings as the incor rigible senior citizens uncork a barrelful of laughs with all kinds of (gray) hair-brained schemes. The series is set in a picturesque village in the Yorkshire Dales, oneof the most beautiful parts of England. If Compo, Blamire and Clegg did not live there, it would be a quiet backwater, but their comic capers ensure that there is never a dull moment. Well into their second childhood, they fill their time with cycling, canoeing, or whatever daft idea comes into their heads. And for Compo, there's his ever-present obsession with the wrinkly-stockinged Nora Batty. Sometimes they just sit in the caf#, annoying the proprietors, Sid and Ivy. More often than not, they are gallivanting through the village and across the Dales, giggling with glee, falling in streams, and behaving worse than a gang of seven-year-olds bunking off school for the day. When Blamire leaves the village to woo a widow, Corporal Foggy Dewhurst takes his place, delighting Compo and Clegg with his insane schemes. And when he departs for pastures new, along comes Seymour -a lunatic inventor whose ideas keep Compo and Clegg in stitches.

A particularly high hedge almost defeats Howard and Alvin, but with the ingenuity of Truly, they find a means of flying over it. The sight of this is too much for a passing drunk.

Episode #802

Clegg (Peter Sallis), Truly (Frank Thornton) and Alvin (Brian Murphy), never miss an opportunity to mislead Howard (Robert Fyfe), so when Alvin observes that a particular strip of woodland looks as if it could be haunted, they soon convince him of its authenticity. Howard accepts the story that nobody goes to the wood at a certain time because of weird sightings of a ghostly tinker, and immediately sees the opportunity to go there for an innocent nature walk with Marina (Jean Fergusson). To scare Howard, Alvin dresses-up to look like the ghostly tinker, however, into the wood comes Barry (Mike Grady) who is dressed in a costume for a part he has in an amateur dramatic production. When Alvin and Barry see each other, they both think they have seen the real ghostly tinker and flee. The local police (Ken Kitson and Louis Emerick) see the frenzied escape of the men in Entwistle?s (Burt Kwouk) truck and give pursuit. When Alvin ? wide eyed and ghostly -looks out from the truck, the Police car skids off the road into a roadside sign.
