Maryland Public Broadcasting Foundation Board
elects new members

OWINGS MILLS, MD: At a recent meeting, the Maryland PublicBroadcasting Foundation named two prominent Marylanders to its board: Michael J. Bayer and Trevor Cornwell.

Michael J. Bayer is a consultant engaged in enterprise strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions. Bayer serves as a member of the Defense Science Board, vice chairman of the Defense Business Board, member of the Council of Trustees of the Association of the United States Army, and member of the Advisory Board of Analytic Services Inc. He has served as counsel to a senior Republican representative from Ohio, deputy assistant secretary for Congressional affairs at the U.S. Department of Energy, Malcolm Baldrige's associate deputy secretary of Commerce, counselor to the United States Synthetic Fuels Corporation, counselor to President Bush's Commission on Aviation Security and Terrorism and as federal inspector for the Alaska Natural Gas Transportation System.

Trevor Cornwell is founder and chief executive officer of Skyjet, a Washington, DC-based company providing a national, real-time reservation system for private jets. Prior to establishing that firm in 1997, Mr. Cornwell began a media company, Word Up! Inc., that provided English language radio programming in Europe and represented CNN for advertising sales there. Mr. Cornwell was founder of the nonprofit National Service League, Inc., an organization that linked business and youth in Eastern Europe to aid the transition to a free-market system. As part of that effort, Mr. Cornwell helped introduce the public radio model to Eastern Europe. An alumnus of The Johns Hopkins University, the New York native resides in Washington, DC.

The Maryland Public Broadcasting Foundation is a not-for-profit foundation affiliated with Maryland Public Television that supports the fundraising and promotion goals of MPT. Directed by a board consisting of two dozen Maryland business, professional, and civic volunteers, the foundation was established in 1981.
