MPT's Ready to Learn and Ready to Grow services
to conduct workshops for child-care providers
Statewide workshops planned for March and April
OWINGS MILLS, MD: Maryland Public Television (MPT) will hold low-cost
workshops on Saturdays in March and April for child-care providers who
work with preschool and school-age children. The sessions will be held
at public libraries and community centers throughout Maryland. MPT's Ready
to Learn service trains caregivers of children ages two through five.
MPT's Ready to Grow service trains caregivers of children ages five through
twelve in before- and after-school programs.
The six-hour-long sessions emphasize character education, developing good
television viewing habits and age-appropriate activities, particularly
in the area of literacy. Ready to Learn workshops incorporate the popular
PBS children's television programs Arthur, Between the Lions, Dragon
Tales, and Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Ready to Grow workshops
integrate the PBS children's television programs Arthur, Between the
Lions, and ZOOM. Participants attending Ready to Grow workshops
also receive an innovative resource kit. Ready to Learn and Ready to Grow
workshops are accredited by the Maryland Department of Human Resources/Child
Care Administration and may be taken for licensing credit.
The fee for a Ready to Learn workshop is $35.00. To register, contact
Ready to Learn at (800) 223-3678, ext. 4166. The fee for a Ready to Grow
