MPT. This is bigger than television.
New Time, New Day, New Season
Outdoors Maryland in MPT's New Sunday Nature Block
OWINGS MILLS, MD: Beginning November 4, the vast and diverse group
of outdoor enthusiasts who are also avid viewers of Maryland Public Television's
(MPT) Outdoors Maryland series will enjoy the program at a new
day and time: Sundays at 7:30 p.m.
As the only television series about nature in Maryland, and man's place
in it, Outdoors Maryland continues to deliver to Maryland Public
Television viewers the exquisite combination of award-winning nature videography
and outstanding writing.
The premier episode of the series' 14th season will be broadcast on Sunday,
November 4 at 7:30 p.m., traveling from the stony outcrops and streams
of Maryland's western frontier to the cordgrass and mosquitoes of the
Chesapeake. Segments include:
"Tying the Fly"
The philosophy of the fly fisherman: "Find the spot. Hit the mark.
Think like the fish. Walk home happy, no matter what." That's especially
true for three western Maryland men whose passion is fishing cold, clear
Maryland mountain streams that support brook
trout - the last-surviving and hard-to-find native species of brook trout
in Maryland.
"Mountain Rattle"
What kind of people purposely track, capture, and study rattlesnakes face
to face? Meet three men who climb rocky western Maryland mountain outcrops
to find and capture the infamous Timber Rattlesnake.
"The Shell Game"
The race is on between the famous Maryland Terrapin and encroaching waterfront
development. The Terrapin - Maryland's state reptile and a famous symbol
of the days of gracious living on the Chesapeake Bay, may not be as plentiful
as once thought - thanks to waterfront development that is displacing
it. Now, researchers are dredging creeks and rivers and slogging through
muddy marshes to see how many Terrapin are left.
Outdoors Maryland is co-produced by Maryland Public Television
and Maryland's Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The series is produced
for MPT by Michael English. For more information on this and other MPT
