MPT. This is bigger than television.

MPT On Location's picks for October: Fall Harvest Days, the Walters Art Museum, and a Trolley Festival

OWINGS MILLS, MD: With harvest over and lawnmowers away for a season, it's a perfect time to join MPT On Location host Rhea Feikin and crew for a look at some of the many entertaining events around the Free State. The following stops through our glorious state are designed to offer the Maryland Public Television (MPT) audience an opportunity at viewing before doing as they are guided on an electronic journey through features and cut-ins woven into regularly scheduled MPT programming beginning at noon on their air dates.

The MPT On Location team heads for the Carroll County Farm Museum on Saturday and Sunday, October 6 and 7 for the Fall Harvest Days Festival. The 142-acre complex is always chock full of history with an Almshouse and Blacksmith Shoppe. However, the festival activities - scarecrow making, wagon rides, milk mustache contest, apple butter making, butchering, country food, crafts, entertainment and puppet shows -enhance the charm of yesteryear. For more information call (800) 654-4645.

On Sunday, October 14, MPT On Location takes a giant step back in time with a stop at the newly refurbished Walters Art Gallery's new permanent collection, Wondrous Journeys: the Walters Collection from Egyptian Tombs to Medieval Castles. Spanning 55 centuries, the collection tells the story of civilization from the ancient world to 20th Century Europe and Asia. During a visit to the Walters' grand reopening gala, MPT On Location brings viewers a tempting glimpse of their magnificent collection. For more information call (410) 547-9000.

On Saturday and Sunday, October 20 and 21, MPT On Location host Rhea Feikin brings viewers a sample of the delightful Myersville Trolley Festival. Great fun for all ages, the festival features activities - pony rides, hot air balloon rides; demonstrations - blacksmithing, jousting, banjo making; plenty of food, and all you need to know about the history of the trolley in Myersville as part of the Frederick and Middletown Railroad. For more information call (301) 293-2888.
