ScholarMan
Hip Hop Artist
Revolutionary hip-hop activist of of Else Where? Entertainment, ScholarMan's music is political, inspirational and street at the same time. Music that the blue collar, white collar and "no collar" can jam to. Thought provoking lyrics everytime—no questions. As he describes it, "For those who hated taking medicine, there was a technique that is still used widely today called 'putting the medicine in the candy,' as a result disguising the medicine inside of a treat . . . The hip-hop industry is sick ladies and gentlemen, every time you turn on your radio it's like stepping outside in 30 degree weather without a winter a coat, the end result being a virus that gets into your soul and marinates until you get one thing—Candy Medicine." ScholarMan joins us to perform a track from his new CD, the aptly titled Candy Medicine.

Shakespeare in American Life
Gail Kern Paster
Director, The Folger Shakespeare Library
The Folger Shakespeare Library is enjoying a region-wide celebration of Shakespeare, "Shakespeare in Washington", which is taking place from January through June of this year. The Folger Shakespeare Library is also celebrating its 75th year, serving the nation and the world as the home of the world's largest Shakespeare collection and center for scholarship, learning, culture and the arts. We talked with Dr. Gail Kern Paster, Director of the Folger Shakespeare Library about its participation in the Festival, its current exhibit, "Shakespeare in American Life" and its newly launched radio documentary, narrated by actor Sam Waterston, and distributed on public radio beginning this month. A special website has been made available to the public—just to handle all of the information about what's going on these days at the Folger. Stop by and join in the Shakespeare celebration!

Carmina Burana
with Tom Hall, of the Baltimore Choral Arts Society
Carmina Burana is the haunting cantata by Carl Orff that is, for many people, their introduction to "serious" classical music. With its driving rhythm and simple harmony, this masterpiece has found its way into popular culture. The Baltimore Choral Arts Society performs the work with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra and the Frederick County Children's Chorus on April 21 at 8pm and on April 22 at 3 pm in Hagerstown, and then the BCAS performs the work with the Kimberly Mackin Dance Company at the Meyerhoff Auditorium in Baltimore on May 6th at 7pm.
