USMC Corporal Annette Spurgeon
Combat Artist
To augment the PBS special THE WAR by Ken Burns, ArtWorks This Week has created a special presentation commemorating combat artists. Few realize that this unique military specialty is still taught at nearby Fort Meade, Maryland. One of its graduates, USMC Corporal Annette Spurgeon, went to Iraq to prove she could draw and fight, and she did both. The special also examines combat artists who participated in conflicts ranging from Vietnam to Somalia to Afghanistan. The program repeats Saturday, 9/29 at 8am.
