Doreen Bolger
Director, Baltimore Museum of Art
Rodin's massive bronze statue of The Thinker is arguably the most familiar piece of artwork for many museum goers. For years, this pensive and poetic male sat out in front of the Baltimore Museum of Art in all kinds of weather, until he was brought indoors to avoid the effects of Mother Nature on his finish. Now, in celebration of the exhibit Rodin: Expression and Influence, this statue can be seen as the focal point of an intimate exhibit of Rodin and works by his contemporaries, chosen by the BMA staff from the museum's permanent collection. This is a great opportunity to visit this very personal grouping that shows Rodin's vision companioned with works of other artists Rodin might have seen while creating his own work. You can find this Rodin exhibit next to the magnificent Cone Collection gloriously installed in the nearby rooms. Museum Director Doreen Bolger talks about this exhibit which runs until April 6.

A Day in the Life of a Bathroom Key
The Baltimore Women’s Film Festival debuts this weekend and it is taking place in none other but Charm City, Baltimore. The festival has a unique mission; it is dedicated to and focused on seeking out cinema that is created by and for women. Festival founders Marisa Cohen and Deanna Strough worked tirelessly to make this an event that celebrates the creativity of women filmmakers and promotes women’s health issues. Hence, 50% of the proceeds from tickets purchases will be donated to the Avon Foundation Breast Center.
Jill Effron, the writer and director of A Day in the Life of a Bathroom Key, will join the Artworks set to discuss her film and the upcoming festival. In all, approximately fifty films from women filmmakers all over the globe will be viewed this weekend in two locations, Red Emma’s 2640 and the Baltimore Museum of Art. The festival dates are October 13th and 14th beginning each day at 11:00am. Tickets may be purchased online or at ticket box offices, 2640 St. Paul Street (for screenings that are shown there) or at the BMA box office.
