"Baltimore: The Opera"
Squonk Opera
"Baltimore: The Opera" is a heart-felt toast to Charm City and its vibrant communities. The multi-media production will be put on by the Pittsburgh-based group called Squonk Opera, and it proves to be a festival for all ages.
Established some 15 years ago, Squonk Opera is a traveling production that takes on the characteristics of each venue that it performs. The show uses dancers, performers, and interviews from the Baltimore area to tell the story of Baltimore. Not really like classic opera, yet exactly like it; Squonk Opera is a surreal and quirky spectacle that the creators, Jackie Dempsey and Steve O'Hearn, fashioned to take the audience on a ride through their hometowns.
Baltimore is excited to host this colorful and noisy event. It all happens November 29 through December 9 at the Theatre Project, 45 West Preston Street, Baltimore, MD. The performance hours are Thursday - Saturday @8pm, Sunday @ 2pm. For box office ticket information, call 410-752-8558.

"My Fair Lady"
Hippodrome Theatre
"My Fair Lady," the 5 time Olivier Award-winning Cameron Macintosh production from the National Theatre of London, is enjoying a nationwide United States tour. The Hippodrome is its Baltimore stop these days and the halls are filled with the sounds of some of musical theatre's favorite songs: "On the Street Where You Live," "I Could Have Danced All Night," and "Get Me to the Church on Time." These are some of Lerner and Loewe's best works and are as bright and sparkly now as they ever were.
Rhea chats with the two actresses in this huge touring production company who take turns playing the starring role of Eliza Doolittle, Lisa O'Hare and Dana DeLisa. (An interesting note about this production is that it also features the lovely actress Sally Ann Howes, who plays the role of Mrs. Higgins. Ms. Howes' Broadway credits include the original Broadway production of "My Fair Lady" when she took over the role of Eliza in New York when Julie Andrews traveled to London to play Eliza there.) Now, years later, she visits the play again in the role of Henry Higgins' elegant mum! "Loverly!" "My Fair Lady" plays at The Hippodrome Theatre through November 18. This national touring production then returns to our area when it runs at The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC from December 27 through January 20, 2008.
