Matisse: Painter as Sculptor

The Baltimore Museum of Art

Artworks Guest"Matisse: Painter as Sculptor" is not only the main attraction currently at The Baltimore Musuem of Art, it is the talk of the arts community up and down the East Coast from Washington, DC to New York! This exhibit is enjoying its final stop in the United States, and the BMA is the only place to see it on the East Coast. Over 160 works of art by the master are on display, including works on paper, sculpture and paintings. Some of these works will be familiar to Baltimoreans who enjoy frequent visits to the BMA's prized Cone Collection. There are also pieces that are appearing in this exhibit on this stop only in Baltimore. Curator Jay Fisher joins Rhea (with the help of Associate Curator Oliver Shell and Objects Conservator Ann Boulton) as we take a one-on-one guided tour of the highlights of this massive exhibit.

Special Note: we were shooting this special on a Monday when the BMA was closed and were pleasantly surprised to hear that Claude Duthuit, the grandson of Henri Matisse had called from New York to ask if he might slip in to visit the exhibit that same day. Of course we asked the BMA's Director of Communications, Anne Mannix, to inquire if he might spend a few minutes giving us his thoughts on this great exhibit honoring his grandfather and he graciously consented. So our "special" on Matisse is very "special" indeed! The exhibit "Matisse: Painter as Sculptor" runs at The Baltimore Museum of Art through February 3, 2008. You don't want to miss this one!
