Although a love for the “complex form” of country music took Marylander Pete Best to Nashville, family ultimately brought him back. Best has been playing under the moniker Peterbuilt for 15 years, many of them spent traveling between Annapolis and Tennessee.
Initially introduced to country music by his wife, Best began trekking south in the early aughts to learn from older musicians and participate in what he calls an “incredibly supportive community” in Nashville. Over a period of several years, through a multitude of songwriting collaborations and networking, Best earned an even deeper appreciation for the artistry and storytelling behind country music. After his daughters were born, however, Best decided to return to Maryland full time.
Peterbuilt continues to write and play in Maryland, which Best happily remarks is less “saturated” than Nashville, where musicians often perform solely for tips. Best hopes to tour regionally in support of Peterbuilt’s new record in the fall of 2019.
