JITNEY is Wilson at his most real—the stories the men tell form a true slice of life. After the return of each trip there is yet another engaging, vivid update of what makes this Black American community so unique. The son of Becker, the boss (played by Roscoe Orman, Gordon of famed “Sesame Street”- www.roscoeorman.com) , returns from prison, adding to the tension in the jitney station along with the city’s plan to close down the businesses in the Hill District.

Violinist Chelsey Green and her band, The Green Project, share their “environmental sound.” A graduate of The Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, and current doctoral student at the University of Maryland and Strathmore Artist-in-Residence, Chelsey Green combines classical music ideas with popular and original songs in various genres. The Green Violinst is a personal patent that certifies her performing as a true representative of who she is and of her life’s passion.

On Friday, February 10, 2012, Donna Brazile, veteran democratic political strategist, adjunct professor, author, syndicated columnist and television political commentator, will speak at the Weinberg Family Center Y to discuss “Inspiring Civility in the National Political Discourse.” A political visionary, Brazile has worked on every presidential campaign from 1976 to 2000, when she served as campaign manager for former U.S. Vice President Al Gore. She is also the first African-American woman to manage a presidential campaign.

Contradiction Dance will perform the audience-favorite production, The Present. Premiered in October 2011, The Present delighted audience members of all ages with its exploration of joy, energy and vulnerability. With ten dancers and one spoken word artist, the performance is structured in that no dancer leaves the stage for the 65-minute run of the show. The interactions that therefore develop and occur between the dancers is palpable and infectious to the audience. Tickets start at $10!

As part of the United States Navy Memorial’s Authors on Deck book lecture series, historian and award-winning author George C. Daughan will present his latest work, 1812: The Navy’s War (Basic Books; October 4, 2011). Guests are invited to learn about the often-overlooked history of what has been called our Second War of Independence. BALTIMORE – Art with a Heart, Inc. (AWAH) will host a First Fridays party on Friday, March 2nd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at their retail store, HeARTwares (623 W. 34th Street) in Hampden. The event will feature live music by The Tumbleweeds and delicious refreshments. HeARTwares recently celebrated its one year anniversary and outgrew its original location.
