Kid Field Trip: THE B & O RAILROAD MUSEUM
Bob
loves trains! The shining, spinning wheels... the sound of the whistle...
the loud chug of the engine! When he visited the B&O Railroad Museum in
Baltimore, MD, Bob learned how important trains were in our country's
westward expansion (the growth of America's frontier towns).
This is what he learned:
- The "B&O"
in B&O Railroad stands for "Baltimore and Ohio" because the train
ran from Baltimore to the Ohio River.
- The B&O
Roundhouse in Baltimore can hold 22 different locomotives which can
be turned around with the help of a giant turntable.
- One of
the largest steam locomotives in history -- the 1604 Allegheny -- can
be seen at the B&O Railroad Museum.
