Viewing with your child
When possible, watch the selection
with your group. This lets you see children's reactions
to the show and answer any questions that come up.
- Be an active viewer! If something in a show fascinates you, point it out. If it puzzles you, talk it through. And if you want to laugh-go right ahead. The more you interact with a program, the more your children will learn to do the same.
- If you've chosen a video, pause it now and then to ask for kids' comments and questions-just like you would if you were reading a story.
- Encourage your children to talk about the characters and their actions. What choices did they make? Why? Would your kids have done the same thing in their shoes?
- Ask for predictions: What will happen next? How will the program end?
Don't worry if you don't have the
answers to all of your group's questions. Write them
down on a piece of paper. Once the program has ended,
you can hunt for the solutions together.
