Once the program ends
Talk, talk, talk! By talking
about a program, you help your child continue to explore
and make sense of what he or she saw.
- Use new words from the show and
discuss new concepts. Relate the ideas to something
familiar in your child's life. Continue the discussion
over the next few days.
- Help your child summarize what
the program was about. What was the main idea or message?
What parts were most important?
- Ask what your child liked best
and why.
- Answer any questions your child
still has about the show. If you aren't sure, look
for answers on the Internet or take a trip to the
library together.
Do, do, do! Teach your child how to
turn on the power of television by connecting the program
to daily life.
- Start a related project or investigation.
(It's easy if you watched a science program-try one
of their experiments at home. How do your results
compare?)
- Take a fieldtrip to a related
place. Visit the library, a museum, a fire station,
a park.
- Read a related book. Write a song
or play a game. Create a piece of art.
- Make a snack or dessert, and talk
about the show as you work.
