Ready to Learn

MPT Ready to Learn
Training Workshops

Maryland Public Television provides workshops designed for child care providers, teachers and parents. These two to six hour long workshops provide in-depth information on ways to link PBS

programming, book reading and related activities. These workshops offer participants an opportunity to become familiar with the Ready to Learn Service and related materials, learn book reading and media literacy techniques, and gain effective skills for integrating this information into their daily work with children. The major goal of these workshops is to help participants develop skills that will allow them to use television as a teaching tool. These skills include the use of songs, crafts, reading, discussions and other activities that extend the learning "off the screen."

These workshops are held on Saturdays at local libraries in all counties of the state. Each Workshop is worth six credit hours towards day care licensing in the Curriculum Content Area of the Core of Knowledge. For additional information, please call (410) 581-4166 or check out our Ready to Learn Workshop Schedule.

MPT's Ready to Learn is sponsored by the Maryland Department of Human Resources/Child Care Administration; Maryland Infants and Toddlers Program/Preschool Services; and by PBS Ready to Learn, funded through a grant from the U. S. Department of Education..
