Call us nostalgic, but we just couldn’t not pick the Ford Shelby GT 500 as MotorWeek’s Best Performance Car of the year. Rather than a 1960s throwback, Carroll Shelby’s latest effort combines a throbbing supercharged 500-horsepower V8, and near-race-car-quality prowess, with the kind of build sophistication and everyday creature coddling that were impossible even a decade ago. While we have to question the sanity of paying 20 grand over list as we hear some folks are doing, we do think the Shelby GT 500 is a keeper.
