2005 Ford Five Hundred

Date: July 2005
Miles: 2,000

Much has already been written about the 2005 Ford Five Hundred. This highly flexible mid-size outside, full-size inside family sedan has seating and cargo-carrying capabilities that approach an SUV. It's available with all-wheel drive and is the first American-made V-6 car to use a CVT Continuously Variable Transmission. With that said, we took delivery of a Five Hundred Limited with all-wheel drive in early May, and so far have driven it 2,000 interesting miles. The combination of a modest 203 horsepower 3.0-liter V6 engine, CVT gearbox, and all-wheel drive, makes for unexciting launches. You think you sense slipping, but it's really the drivetrain just spooling up. Being a big car also makes you think acceleration is slower than it is. In reality, we have no trouble keeping up with traffic or passing. Plus, what great mileage -- 28.4 miles per gallon and we're just getting started.

We love the high seating position, folding front passenger seat, great rear seat leg room, and the huge trunk. A little more seat bolstering is our only request. If a family sedan can be an SUV without actually being one, then the Five Hundred bats a thousand.

We're enjoying all of our time and mileage with this 2005 Ford Five Hundred. This highly flexible mid-size outside, full-size inside family sedan has seating and cargo-carrying abilities that approach an SUV. Powered by Ford's able 203-horsepower Duratec V-6, our Five Hundred includes both the shiftless CVT transmission and automatic all-wheel drive. While acceleration seems slower than we'd like, we never have a problem in passing. Plus, with sky-high gas prices, fuel economy of 24.2 miles per gallon after 4,000 miles is something to crow about. Plus we love all the room, the high seating position, folding front passenger seat, great rear seat leg room, and huge trunk.

Time to say goodbye to our 2005 Ford Five Hundred. This highly flexible family sedan has people and cargo carrying capabilities that approach the family SUV. Powered by a 203-horsepower 3.0-liter twin-cam V-6, our Five Hundred includes the shiftless CVT transmission and all-wheel drive. We got used to its moderate but adequate acceleration, while fuel economy of 24.2 miles per gallon made us smile.

We love all the room in the Five Hundred, the folding front passenger seat, and the huge trunk. Our Limited model was also fault free. The Ford Five Hundred is a superior package that could quench your thirst for an SUV in more ways than one.
