Not ready for a hybrid, but still want a standout family car? For
us that means this 2005 Mitsubishi Galant. We've barely had our Galant a
month and it already has over 3,000 miles on the clock. This is the
sportiest GTS trim, complete with a 3.8-liter V-6. On paper horsepower
is good if not spectacular at 230. But, in motion, the V-6 feels
stronger, with an impressive 24.5 mile per gallon economy average.
The Galant's head-turning exterior styling is matched with a
high-style interior that can be equipped with premium features like an
Infiniti stereo and side-impact airbags. While time will tell if our
impressions of the new Galant stay strong, they are off to a healthy
start.

Time and mileage are speeding by for our 2005 Mitsubishi
Galant GTS. It's been with us for almost 6 months, and managed 9,000
miles of mostly mindless commuting between Baltimore and Washington.
That kind of daily grind can suck the life and the enjoyment out of any
car. But that is not the case with this sportiest and best equipped
Galant.
The ride is smooth, if a little mushy. It's amazingly quiet for a
mid-size family sedan. Power from our car's 3.8-liter V6 is amply
delivered with near invisible shifts. As we speed by all those thirsty
SUVs, we appreciate the 23.4 miles per gallon the GTS is also
delivering. It's a fine ride, and so far a worthy alternative to the
ubiquitous Camry and Accord. |

We like our 2005 Mitsubishi Galant GTS better with each passing day and mile. Indeed it's been with us for 7 months and 11,000 miles. This sportiest and best equipped Galant does both commuting and long distance duties with equal ease. The stylish interior boasts well placed controls and very supportive seats. There is a good balance between ride comfort and handling ability, although some of its frequent users would still like the suspension stiffened up a bit. All agree that the Galant is very quiet for a mid-size family sedan, and that the power from our car's 3.8-liter V6 is more than ample. Given today's mile-high gas prices, we're glad to report that fuel economy is up again to 23.6 miles per gallon. All in all, we give the Galant high marks so far. |

After 8 months and some 13,000 miles, our staff opinions are starting to solidify on this 2005 Mitsubishi Galant GTS mid-size family sedan. We give this sportiest of Galants high marks for its standout styling, supportive front seats, fine handling, and responsive powertrain. The 230-horsepower 3.8-liter V-6 and 4-speed automatic are a smooth combination. And we also are happy with the stable 23.6 mile per gallon fuel economy.
On the downside, dash and upholstery materials seem less than top grade. And those in the rear seat feel almost every bump. Also, at interstate speeds, the ride turns a little too mushy for our tastes.
But all of our staff agree on the Galant's reliability. It stands at 100 percent so far. |

Time is going by fast with our 2005 Mitsubishi Galant GTS, too. After 9 months and some 14,000 miles, we think we understand this sporty-flavored mid-size family sedan pretty well. Since last report we did visit the dealer with an engine knocking sound. The culprit was some cheap gas. Otherwise, this GTS has been fault free.
The smooth 230-horsepower 3.8-liter V-6 and 4-speed automatic combination delivers fine fuel economy of 23.3 miles per gallon, although it did drop 3-tenths since last report. Could be the gas again.
Our likes and dislikes are unchanged. Great aggressive styling outside and in, and handling is above average for its class, and the front seats are very comfortable. We can't say the same for the rear seats, however. You feel every lump in the road.
Still, if you're bored with Camrys and Accords, the Mitsubishi Galant is an able and distinctive alternative. |

Leaving us is this 2005 Mitsubishi Galant GTS sedan. After 10 months and 16,500 miles, we found this mid-size family four-door to be a sharper and sportier alternative to the blander diet of Camry and Accord. Mechanically it has been fault free, and given our staff's constant use, that's saying something. The smooth 230-horsepower 3.8-liter V-6 and 4-speed automatic combination delivered good fuel economy of 22.9 miles per gallon. |
