2007 Kia Sedona

Date: March 2007
Miles: 3,000

If you live on the East Coast, or between Baltimore and Chicago, you may have seen this rolling billboard pass you by. It's our 2007 Kia Sedona EX minivan all decked out in MotorWeek garb.

We took our Best Minivan Drivers' Choice Pick to the awards ceremony at the Chicago Auto Show, and it hasn't stood still since.

This second generation Sedona has everything an up-to-date minivan buyers could want. From fold down front console, to fold into the floor third-row seats, to power opening rear hatch.

After 2 months and about 3,000 miles, we've found the Sedona's 3.8-liter 250-horsepower V6 more than willing, if a little noisy. While gas mileage at 18.1 miles-per-gallon on regular grade is reasonable, we hope it gets better.

Log book comments praise seating comfort, and its long list of standards, including three row curtain airbags and stability control.

While it pays to advertise, we think the Kia Sedona almost sells itself.

Now it may not be chic, but when it comes to carrying a big family and all their belongings, you really can't beat a minivan. And, our seven-passenger Kia Sedona is among the most well rounded.

Still decked out in MotorWeek skin, our Drivers' Choice Award winner is faring very well after 3 months and 5,000 miles.

The Sedona's 3.8-liter 250-horsepower V6 has loosened up nicely and mileage has climbed to adequate at 19.3 miles-per-gallon on regular grade.

Our staff praises its comfort and folding front console for walk through seating. Our only complaints are a short front passenger foot well, and a broken rear wiper blade.

With summer vacations ahead of us, we expect our rolling billboard Sedona to continue to add lots of miles and smiles.

Date: October 2007
Miles: 13,000

It's been a while since we had a Long-Term Road Test Update on our 7-passenger 2007 Kia Sedona minivan.

Our Sedona has been recovering from a near miss with a bolt of lightning. The Kia protected everyone inside, but not all of its own insides, as the powertrain electronics took a beating. But, Kia tells us, all is now ship shape so our Sedona is back on the road.

After 8 months, and nearly 13,000 miles, the only other problem was a broken rear wiper blade.

Mileage is 19.9 miles per on regular gas, and continues to climb.

The Sedona's 3.8-liter 250-horsepower V6 continues to impress as well, with ample, smooth power for passing and all but the heaviest loads.

Our staff loves the long distance comfort, folding front console for walk through convenience, and overall versatility.

We have 4 months to go with our Kia, and our only hope is that lightning won't strike twice.

After an interesting year, it's time to retire our 7-passenger 2007 Kia Sedona EX minivan.

You may recall that our rolling billboard Sedona had a near miss with a bolt of lightning late in the summer. Everyone inside was fine, but the powertrain electronics suffered from the electrical surge.

The only other fault that was the Sedona's fault was a broken rear wiper blade.

Fuel economy averaged 19.9 miles-per-gallon on regular gas. The Sedona's 3.8-liter 250-horsepower V6 provided ample, smooth power even in hilly terrain.

Indeed, the Sedona's overall comfort, utility, and relaxed but never stodgy driving style, grew on us right to the end. That makes the Kia Sedona a winner on our lot.
