Campaign for Love and Forgiveness logo

Change everything. Love and forgive.

" I can only love one person at a time... The whole work is only a drop in the ocean. But if I didn't put that drop in, the ocean would be one drop less. Same thing for you, same thing for your family, same thing in the community where you live. Just begin...one, one, one. "
- Mother Teresa

Did you know that:

  • Love may actually be good for your health?
  • Acts of kindness can lead to a greater sense of security and safety in both givers and receivers, and a desire to pass that kindness on?
  • Not only can prejudice and discrimination be reduced through friendly interactions with people from groups outside our own, but empathy, respect, and even love for these "others" can be enhanced by these interactions?

The Campaign for Love and ForgivenessActivities | Overview

Campaign for Love & Forgiveness

The multi-year Campaign for Love & Forgiveness explores how love and forgiveness can effect positive change in individuals and communities. Using three public television documentaries and various activities, the campaign will encourage community conversations throughout the United States, inviting everyone to connect on the topics of love and forgiveness. The first film, The Mystery of Love, will be broadcast on MPT Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at 9 PM. Phase One of the campaign will address love, and Phase Two, slated for mid-2007, will focus primarily on forgiveness. The Campaign for Love & Forgiveness is an inclusive, nonpartisan project of the Fetzer Institute.

" When the power of love overcomes
the love of power, the world will know peace.
"
- Jimi Hendrix

Campaign Activities

The campaign aims to nurture conversations that lead to new & healing actions in relationships, in society and in the global community. Online, Gather.com is an interactive social networking and social media platform through which content providers, individual writers and media outlets can post articles and images to stimulate conversation. The Campaign for Love & Forgiveness Group on Gather.com can be joined by anyone interested in reading, creating content - text or images - and/or participating in online conversations relevant to the topics of love & forgiveness. A national letter-writing initiative will encourage loving and forgiving acts and expressions throughout the campaign. Paper Source, a seller of fine, handmade papers in stores and online, will feature the campaign in their upcoming product catalogs, store displays, and their newly-created letter-writing kits. The American Library Association is developing campaign-specific materials, including booklists, and making them available to public libraries. In addition, they are encouraging local libraries to participate through displays, booklists and letter-writing workshops.

Locally, MPT is one of 6 PBS Station Partners of the campaign. Together with community partners such as the Baltimore Community Foundation, local performer/educator Maria Broom, Center for Jewish Education, and Towson University, MPT will host a series of conversations and events between January-June 2007.

Campaign Overview

The Campaign for Love and Forgiveness ended its first year on a successful and enthusiastic note. The Spread the Love Grantees worked hand-in-hand with the community to share the message of our movement. The campaign supported the community activities using various means of promotion, which included the launching of a new website, print and radio promotion for The Mystery of Love broadcasts and The Day of Forgiveness, among other promotional efforts.
