Waging a Living

Waging a LivingWaging a Living is an upcoming PBS P.O.V. (a cinema term for point of view) film that will be broadcast September 28th, 2006 at 9 PM. It is part of a series of independent non-fiction films that PBS features. Additional funding is provided by the Annie E. Casey Foundation as a part of the Working Families Partnership outreach initiative, which highlights the issues low-income families face as well as organizations that address these problems. Waging a Living, an observational documentary, produced by Roger Weisburg, chronicles over a period of three years the lives of four everyday wage-earners who are working to lift their families out of poverty in both the northeast and California. Available at the website are materials for discussing the issues that face low-income wage earners today.

An additional screening of the film will take place on September 19th, 2006 from 12 to 2 PM at the Reginald. F. Lewis Museum, located at 830 E. Pratt Street, Baltimore. With opening remarks by U.S. congressman Elijah Cummings, a 26 minute policy version of the film will be screened, followed by panel discussion and audience Q & A. The panel will include Jason Perkins-Cohen of the Job Opportunities Task Force, JoAnn Williams of University of MD Medical Systems, a Baltimore resident, and others. From the business community, workforce development field, media, policy-making area, and education and healthcare industries, it is expected that 100 will attend.
