MPT President & CEO Robert J. Shuman Chairs Influential Public TV Organization


Following its recent meeting in Chicago, the Affinity Group Coalition (AGC) has announced Robert Shuman, president and CEO of Maryland Public Television, as its newly elected chair. The national group is a coalition representing all public television stations with a mission to address system-wide issues of critical interest to public television stations nationwide.

With a shared mission of promoting, supporting and encouraging Maryland’s thriving arts community, MPT Foundation, Inc. of Maryland Public Television (MPT) and the Weinberg Center for the Arts have entered into a media partnership. The joint venture cements a longstanding relationship between the two non-profit organizations that emphasizes shared values and cross-promotion.

Thundering Hooves


Thundering Hooves: Maryland Steeplechase Racing, premiering on MPT September 25 at 10 p.m., gives horse racing fans an all-access pass behind the excitement as cameras follow owners, trainers, jockeys and horses as they prepare for and participate in Maryland’s steeplechase races, held annually each spring, including the Maryland Hunt Cup, the most prestigious timber race in the world.

Elizabeth Morgan Named Maryland Public Broadcasting Commissioner


Governor Martin O’Malley has appointed Washington County Public Schools Superintendent Elizabeth Morgan to the Maryland Public Broadcasting Commission. Established in 1966, the Maryland Public Broadcasting Commission—a governor-appointed, 11-member body—oversees the critical infrastructure necessary for delivery of programming on MPT and helps guide the broadcaster’s strategic vision.
