Episode Description

  • Jenell and Alan Eck are two young Queen Anne's County farmers dedicated to keeping their family's agricultural traditions alive, albeit in different ways. Alan has his own farming operation, raising straw, cattle, hogs, and poultry. Meanwhile, Jenell—a former Miss Maryland Agriculture and State FFA President—attends events as an advocate for agriculture, acting as a voice for Maryland's farmers.
  • Jack and Becky Gurley of Calvert's Gift Farm in Baltimore County are the founders of Chesapeake Farm to Table—a service, known as a food hub, that acts as a matchmaker between local farms and restaurants. They'll explain the system that allows chefs to go online and select the produce they want from the farm of their choice, before the food hub delivers it right to their kitchen.
  • The Andrews family raises 2,800 acres of green peas at Clearview Farms in Dorchester County. Find out how peas grow and how they're harvested—with that many peas, it's not by hand—before they end up in a frozen foods aisle near you.
  • The Local Buy: 17-year-old Emily Jackson is a promising young farmer and the namesake of her family's farm: Emily's Produce. Al Spoler visits the Dorchester County farm just in time for the zucchini harvest.
  • Then & Now: How Chicken Has Changed
