Episode Description

  • Bernie Fowler, Jr. is the son of a state senator who was once facing divorce, bankruptcy, and a daughter with a terrifying heroin addiction. At his lowest, he thought about taking his own life; instead, he started changing the lives of others through his non-profit, Farming 4 Hunger. Operating on Serenity Farm in Charles County, Farming 4 Hunger donates 2 million pounds of food to needy southern Maryland families each year.
  • Who says you don't want to see how sausage is made? It's actually quite interesting and, for some, a family tradition. Catoctin High School is the site of a yearly country butchering—a community event that brings together young and old to take part in a disappearing tradition.
  • Russell Brothers Farm in St. Mary's County has started a relatively new Christmas tradition: inviting bargain hunters and farming enthusiasts alike to their farm each year for a Christmas-themed auction.
  • The Local Buy: Al Spoler visits Sassafras Creek Farm in Saint Mary's County where winter greens grow throughout the year with the help of a high tunnel.
