- The Maryland Department of Agriculture is the only one in the country to employ a “bee dog”—used to sniff hives to check for a contagious, colony killing bacteria known as American Foulbrood. Follow Mack, the yellow lab, and his handler, MDA Apiary Inspector Cybil Preston, as they inspect hundreds of hives before they are sent to California to pollinate the almond crop. Ora Hayes of Hayes Apiary in Washington County explains why almond growers are willing to pay beekeepers like him to ship millions of bees across the country each winter.
- Beekeeper George Meyer of Bee George Honey in Talbot County is proud of the sweet, amber-colored product he markets, but he’ll readily admit the bees do most of the work. George explains how bees make honey and how it’s collected and bottled for consumers to enjoy.

- Kara Brook is a beekeeper at Chesterhaven Beach Farm in Queen Anne’s County who relies on bees for many of the products she sells at her shop, Waxing Kara. She uses honey in skin care products and beeswax as a medium for painting.
