Emmy award winning Julia Child is back on
public television with her new 39-part series,
BAKING WITH JULIA. BAKING WITH JULIA demonstrates recipes for
the extraordinary variety of breads now popular across the country and
the greatest examples of America's favorite course - dessert.
Each week, BAKING WITH JULIA presents the delicious details for making foods Americans crave and home bakers want to create: loaves of hearty whole-wheat bread, focacci rich with olive oil and herbs; high-domed breakfast muffins with berries and bran; daintily decorated petits fours; feather-light meringues; devilishly decadent chocolate cakes; double-crusted, old-fashioned berry pies; and a variety of cookies including old fashioned ginger snaps, authentic hazelnut biscotti and delicate French lace.
From Julia Child and the country's most outstanding pastry chefs and bakers, teachers and cookbook authors, viewers will learn the indispensable techniques, time-honored tips and meticulously tested recipes that make home baking successful and satisfying.
Whether Julia is welcoming the doyenne of home baking, Marion Cunningham (Fanny Farmer Cookbook), into her kitchen to demonstrate how to make the perfect muffin, or shaping Lauren Groveman's bagel dough into perfect rounds that will bake to an irresistible chewiness, viewers will learn invaluable nuances as well as the basics. Because of its range and Julia Child's proven and singular ability to make even the most complicated procedure readily understandable, the series will captivate anyone seriously interested in baking, or cooking in general, from amateur to professional.
The first 26 episodes of BAKING WITH JULIA will run through the summer of 97. The 13 remaining episodes will air in Fall '97. The companion cookbook to the series will be concurrently published by William Morrow & Company. BAKING WITH JULIA is sponsored by Farberware Millennium Cookware, Arm & Hammer Baking Soda, a product of Church & Dwight Company, King Arthur Flour, Land O'Lakes Butter, and Starbucks Coffee.
