History DetectivesHistory Detectives invites you on a search for clues to solve intriguing mysteries from America's past. Your guides are skilled investigators and experts in historical studies. When "tricks of the trade" or complex lab tests come into play, the experts explain every vital step. The search for evidence may lead you anywhere, and the trail can take curious twists. Armed with scientific tests, shrewd research, and decades of experience, the team intends to find answers to three riddles each week. And you will witness the dramatic moments when History Detectives reveals conclusive evidence, and answers, to each enigma.

The History Detectives found the clues and solved the case; now explore your own inquisitive side with these helpful resources to research local mysteries:

  • Stretch your detective muscles! Search the Maryland Historical Society website to see how many of the “firsts” attributed to Maryland can be illustrated by material found in the extensive MDHS Library.
  • Get at the heart of mysterious tall tales worthy of researching by visiting the StoryNet website for a list of upcoming tall tale story telling events in Maryland.
  • Take a virtual tour of the National Museum of American History located in Washington, DC to investigate the vast collections of historical objects and documents.
  • Visit the Maryland Historical Trust to locate a local organization in your county dedicated to identifying, evaluating, preserving, and protecting our state's significant prehistoric and historic districts, sites, structures, cultural landscapes, heritage areas, cultural objects, and artifacts.
