National Geographic Bee
Are you smarter than a 4th through 8th grader? Mary Lee Elden of the National Geographic Society joins us tonight to preview this years National Geographic Bee. The first national competition was held in 1989. It was started by the National Geographic Society to encourage the teaching and study of geography. Nearly five million 4th through 8th graders participate in the school, state and national bees each year. Tune in to MPT on Thursday, May 24th at 10:30am for ROAD TO THE GEO BEE, as we follow three U.S. students as they get ready to compete in the biggest geographic competition in the world. Immediately followed by the 2007 National Geographic Bee.

Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon
Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon joins Jeff to talk about her extensive new plan to fight crime. Mayor Sheila Dixon became the 48th Mayor of Baltimore on January 17, 2007, succeeding Mayor Martin O'Malley. She holds the distinction of being the first woman ever to hold this position. For two decades in public office, Mayor Dixon has been a champion of neighborhoods and a pioneer for women and minorities. In 1987, she won a seat on the Baltimore City Council representing the 4th Council District, where she served for 12 years. In 1999, she became the first African-American woman elected as City Council President.
