Alternatives to Over-the-Counter Medications for Young Children
The FDA has issued a Public Health Advisory for parents, recommending that over-the-counter cough and cold products not be used to treat infants and children less than two years of age because serious and potentially life-threatening side effects can occur from such use. Tonight we'll learn about the dangers and what to do as an alternative for your child's cough and colds. Dr. Sharfstein was one of the authors of an editorial in the December, 2007, issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, which urged the FDA to ban the medicines.
