A little help from my friends?

Hello, I have 2 questions regarding British comedies. 1) Could you advise me if there is a British comedy appreciation group which meets in the Baltimore Metro area? 2) I am interested in starting a course of study and appreciation of British comedy at CCBC and was wondering if MPT could assist me with this? I have extensive knowledge of the topic and am familiar with current TV shows from the UK.
Herb M.

EDITOR: Dear Herb, we don't know of a British comedy appreciation group but we're hoping one of readers will. If so, we hope they will contact us and we will forward the information to you. As far as the course of study, MPT can't help you with this but we thought if we include your question in the newsletter perhaps someone will have a potential solution.

What did they say?

I have a suggestion for those of you who have difficulty sometimes understanding or hearing the British English in the sitcoms or in movies. Turn on the closed captioning in the TV! Most of the shows are closed captioned and there is either a closed captioning button on the remote or in the TV's menu. Might take a few seconds for the captioning to appear on the screen, so be patient. Closed captioning makes things much easier to catch, even on American shows!

EDITOR: Dear Jenny, what a great idea! We know we sometimes have a hard time with the accent and miss something very funny. We bet quite a few of our Tea Goers experience the same thing. We're going to give it a try!

That's not Royal Doulton?

Just a note to let you know that Royal Doulton does NOT make a set with hand-painted periwinkles as Hyacinth is so proud to flaunt. The china that she actually uses on the show is made by Colclough in China. It's quite a nice set all the same, though! Funny, huh?

EDITOR: Dear Cynthia, you could knock us over with a feather! Is Hyacinth pulling our leg or what?
