July 2005: Issue 6, Volume 1
Editor's Note
Thank You! Your Voice Was Heard
I want to take a moment to thank you for taking the time to contact your representatives in Congress to let them know about how your felt about the proposed cut to public television funding in the Federal budget. Across the nation, Washington heard loud and clear from public television viewers that the programming and services provided by the local public television stations are highly valued.
MPT's president, Rob Shuman, spent many hours on Capital Hill speaking with Maryland delegates and explaining to them all of the resources made available to the citizens of Maryland because of this Federal funding. We here at MPT are all proud of Mr. Shuman and grateful for his dedication to the citizens of Maryland. Congratulations on a job well done, Rob!
MPT received letters from many of you on this subject but one in particular stands out. Helen, a 13 year old young lady from Lanham, wrote to us concerned about the loss of all of her favorite programming. Even at such a young age, she understood the seriousness of the proposed cut in funding. A fellow Afternoon Tea Goer, Helen took the time to write us to express her fears. Helen, we applaud you and are proud to have you as a faithful viewer!
By the quantity of mail we received about the hiatus of Last of the Summer Wine, we are fairly certain that many of you were happy to see its return on June 21. In the future, when we are going to make a change to the Brit Com schedule, we will alert you to the fact in the Tea Times. We hope this will allay any fears that your favorite program is gone for good!
All of us at MPT send our best wishes for a smile-filled and safe summer!
