Afternoon Tea is pleased to present performance information and news items regarding the British Players, a community theater formed initially by the staff of the British Embassy. The group produces British plays and shows for Washington-area theater lovers, and it also supports British and American charities from its proceeds.

Ruby Griffith Awards 2007
Presenting this year's winners of the prestigious Ruby Griffith Award for excellence in amateur theater production. These awards are named for an early mentor of the Players and attract entries from over 30 local community theatre groups each year.

About The British Players
The British Players, originally formed in 1964 as The British Embassy Players by the late John Palmer and a small group of keen Embassy staffers, was incorporated in the District of Columbia as a non-profit 501[c](3) organization in March 2006. Though no longer performing at the Embassy Rotunda (due to renovations there), the Group's mission remains as it was during its previous 43 years at the British Embassy: bringing British plays and shows to Washington area theatre lovers and giving to British and American charities as funds permit and thus enhancing Anglo-American relationships. To date, the Group has been instrumental in providing over $400,000 for both British and American charities. The players now perform at the Kensington Town Hall in Kensington, Maryland.
The Players are honoured to have as their Patroness the wife of the British Ambassador to the United States of America, Lady Manning.
With over 200 mainly British and American members drawn from Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC, The British Players value the support, talents and skills that members bring to its various activities. These include many social activities as well as its main theatre objectives. During its history, the Group has provided an invaluable connection among the Embassy, its staff members and the American community.
The Players major productions include comedies and dramas by British playwrights, pantomimes, musical revues, and the annual Old-Time Music Hall - now in its 43rd continuous year. The Players also stage special one-night shows and fund-raisers for local organizations.
