Keeping Up Appearances filming locations
Invitation in the opening sequence

In last week's Tidbits we revealed where Keeping Up Appearances writer Roy Clarke set the series – the West Midlands. Although the actual city where the Buckets reside is never mentioned, the opening sequence, where Hyacinth is penning an invitation to one of her candlelight suppers, shows the Bucket’s address on the invite as being located in the fictional town of Fuddleton - “Waney Edge, Blossom Avenue” to be precise.

The exterior shots of Hyacinth and Richard’s home were actually filmed in the village of Binley Woods, Warwickshire at 117 Heather Road. Last year, the house next door to Hyacinth’s – the one occupied by Elizabeth and her brother Emmet in the series -- came onto the market for the asking price of £495,000 – about $600,000. It features a swimming pool and a summer house in the garden. As you can see in the accompanying photograph, Hyacinth’s house is quite a bit smaller than Elizabeth’s – I’m sure Hyacinth wouldn’t have liked that!

On the other hand, just as you would expect, Onslow and Daisy’s house is far smaller than Hyacinth's. The location of the small terrace house where exterior shots were taken, was 3, Mitchell Close, Stoke Aldermoor in Coventry. Coventry wasn’t, however, used for the location shots. Instead filming took place in the town of Leamington Spa in Warwickshire. Warwick is also the location of Chesford Grange Hotel, which was the hotel Hyacinth and Richard stayed in when they went "Golfing with the Major." That particular episode airs on Afternoon Tea on Tuesday, January 28th.

Northampton is another town that was used frequently in the series. Christchurch Church and Church Hall in Northampton, for instance, was used for the exterior shots of the Church and Church Hall. The Toy Shop that "Daddy" walked out of dressed as a spaceman was also located in Northampton and that particular episode airs on Friday, January 31st.

Keeping Up Appearances airs Monday through Friday afternoons at 2:30pm on MPT.
