FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: Where is the taping event?
A: The Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center at the University of Maryland College Park at 7801 Alumni Drive, College Park, Maryland 20742. Click here for Directions and Parking Information.
Q: When is the taping event?
A: The taping event is August 3 & 4, 2019 (rain or shine).
Q: Can I bring collectibles to the filming event without registering in advance?
A: To be fair to all registered collectors, to minimize lines, and to provide a secure environment for your heirlooms, we require that all attendees register in advance. Click here to register or call 1-800-222-1292.
Q: How many items may I bring?
A: If you registered by Pledging, you may have up to three items evaluated for free. If you were registered by Photo Submission, you can have one item evaluated for free, and up to two additional items evaluated for $40 each, payable at the Cashier Table in the Registration Hall. NOTE: no cash accepted: credit/debit or checks only.
Your antiques will receive an expert oral evaluation (sorry, no written appraisals). Evaluations are for entertainment purposes only. You may bring one companion to the event to help you carry items. We do not need the name of your companion; however, your companion may not bring any additional items for evaluation.
Q: Are there restrictions?
A: For your safety and the safety of our staff, there are some rules we ask attendees to follow. Collectibles cannot exceed 40 pounds and must be easy for you to carry by hand for a distance. For liability reasons, the staff is not able to assist with your items. Do not leave any items unattended. Our appraisers will not evaluate coins, currency, stamps, vehicles, explosives, firearms manufactured after 1900, or glass fire extinguishers. Items containing hazardous materials are not allowed.
Q: Will I be on TV if I come to the taping?
A: Perhaps! Our appraisers work with our production team to select the most interesting, unique and/or valuable collectibles. If you attend the taping and one of your items is selected for the show, our staff may escort you to be lightly made-up for your appearance with the appraiser.
Q: Does it matter what day or time I bring my collectibles to University of Maryland during the event weekend?
A: Yes! Nearly 1,000 people are expected to attend the taping over the two days of the event. Scheduled timeframes enable us to provide a safe, fun, and efficient experience for everyone. Please come on the day and at any time during the timeslot for which you register. If you are not sure what timeslot you selected, or if you need to change your selection, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 1-800-522-8915 (9:00am – 5:00pm weekdays).
Q: Do collectibles need to be from Maryland or the Chesapeake region?
A: No. We welcome collectibles from anywhere in the world!
Q: Can you evaluate my antique if I send a photograph and skip the event?
A: No. MPT has no appraisers on staff. Nearly 20 certified appraisers will be ready to provide evaluations at the taping event for Chesapeake Collectibles.
Q: What constitutes "a collection?"
A: A collection is a group of closely related items. Registrants are allowed a maximum of 3 items; however, a collection may be considered a single item. Examples: a tea set or a small group of portraits by the same artist are each considered to be one item. Paintings by a variety of painters are separate items. Not sure if your items are a collection? Email email@example.com
Q: How will I get my ticket?
A: There are no tickets. When you pledge, we will add your name to the Master Admission List. Simply bring your antiques and companion to the event on the day and at the time you chose when pledging or submitting your photo.
