About the program
Follow the inspiring story of the South's oldest historically Black university, from its 1865 founding by a Union chaplain dedicating to teaching newly freed slaves to its role nearly a century later as the birthplace of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Throughout its 155-year legacy, Shaw University has served as an inspiration for many HBCUs to follow and is credited with developing leaders across all disciplines.
