Summertime is fun time! But summer break doesn’t have to mean a break from learning, too. At MPT we combine both – fun and learning!  

Visit MPT's education web portal, Thinkport.org, to find exciting digital learning adventures, interactive activities, games and videos. Here are a few suggestions to get you started, then be sure to browse Thinkport's treasure trove of resources. Enjoy!

Summer On! – Fun weekly themes will keep young kids laughing, crafting and learning.

MPT in the Classroom – Take a deep dive into topics explored through many of MPT's most popular local programs, such as Maryland Farm & Harvest.

Discover Nature Series – Investigate nature with hands-on, minds-on activities.

Remember, learning is a lifelong journey, and summer is the perfect time to explore new subjects and discover your passions. Let's make this summer one filled with sunshine, adventures, and amazing learning experiences!

Artworks celebrates local and regional artists working in a wide range of disciplines. Episodes in the series’ ninth season dive deep into topics including theater, curation, comedy, folk art, fine art, animation, and jazz. 

“Artworks is back with a new look and feel,” states MPT’s Patrick Keegan, executive producer. “The immersive, cinematic approach of this season brings viewers into the creative process and promotes connections between audience and artist. We are excited to continue showcasing the enormous talent of artists in our region.”

The first three episodes in Artworks’ new season explore topics in theater production and museum curation and are available to stream here. 

Artworks airs Fridays at 7:30pm on MPT-HD and the MPT livestream. Episodes are also made available to view on demand using MPT’s online video player and the PBS App.

 

Human Footprint airs July 19 at 9pm

Earth has never experienced anything like us: a single species dominating and transforming the planet. Biologist Shane Campbell-Staton travels the globe to explore our human footprint and to discover how the things we do reveal who we truly are. 

In this episode, Shane discovers why dogs are more than man’s best friend. They’ve been reshaped by evolution into the perfect partner for our species. And, just as we’ve transformed them, dogs have left an unmistakable pawprint on us and the world we both share. Watch the preview here.

 

Tune in for Lines Broken: The Story of Marion Motley on July 24 at 9:30pm

In 1946, Canton, Ohio, native Marion Motley was one of four African American men to break pro football’s color barrier when he joined the Cleveland Browns. This local production tells the Canton native’s story of adversity, personal tragedy and triumphs using rarely heard archival interviews and new interviews with historians, friends and descendants. Southern Storytellers, premieres - July 18 at 9pm

From award-winning filmmaker Craig Renaud, Southern Storytellers follows some of the region’s most compelling and influential contemporary creators to the places they call home -- the communities that fertilize the stories they tell in books, songs, poems, plays, and on screens large and small. Watch the preview here.

 

CHESAPEAKE BAY WEEK: Downee Ocean, Hon!

Ask Marylanders where they're headed this summer and chances are you’ll hear "downee ocean," which can only mean one place: Ocean City! From the beach to the boardwalk, the Ferris wheel to fishing, ocean sunrise to bay nightlife, Downee Ocean, Hon! captures the OC experience – the rich history, family traditions, and small-town charm that's kept it one of the East Coast's top vacation spots. Paul serves as program manager and is responsible for curating program schedules for MPT and MPT2. Paul joined MPT in 2019 and has worked in the media for more than 25 years. He is passionate about content and sharing it with others. Paul describes himself as an avid reader and explorer, having visited nearly 50 countries around the world.
